From episdoe 7 of ‘The Vietnam War’ series and in almost ghostly similarity to 2016 –

Pres Lyndon B Johnson had obtained taped dialog in early 1968; a recorded conversation, which seemed to directly implicate the then presidential candidate Richard Nixon. The recording implicated Nixon of committing treason against the United States. It appeared that Nixon had orchestrated instructions, delivered to South Vietnamese leadership, secretly instructing them not to negotiate for a peace treaty, until he (Nixon) were elected President! He therefore sabotaged the 1968 peace-talks and – committed treason!

But LBJ could not bring the evidence to light because of its source or perhaps the task of proof – directly implicating Nixon. Therefore We the People, nor Congress, not even President Johnson’s wife, knew about the implicating tapes – and we got President Richard Nixon. Many years later, personal notes from H.R. Haldeman, candidate Nixon’s then closest aid and his future Chief of Staff, proved that Nixon had in fact, directly orchestrated the sabotage of the peace talks and committed treason!

Season 7 of the Vietnam War Series

The Vietnam conflict was the first in US history, not supported by much of the US population nor by many of the drafted or enlisted personnel, who went to serve in the conflict. It was during this conflict that we find one John McCain serving as pilot, shot down and taken captive. Some many years later (2016), Senator McCain, was openly and viciously pummeled by one candidate Trump for being taken captive after being shot down. This by he-Trump of wealth who was “diagnosed” with bone-spurs as excuse not to serve in Vietnam.

The Vietnam instability started at the end of World War 2, 1945 with the Ho Chi Minh takeover from the surrendered Japanese. The official Vietnam conflict is noted to be from 1955 to 1975. The United States had been participating behind the scenes (as were the Soviet Union and – China), but the US officially engaged the conflict in 1965. Prior to that (1961) JFK had sent 400 troops to Vietnam but as trainers only and of course, much assistance in the form of resources, from the United States, as were the USSR and China – supplying the North Communist Regime.

Officially 58,220 servicemen of the US military were killed in the conflict. An estimated 1.353-million total deaths occurred as the direct result of the Vietnam conflict, though there are estimates as high as 3.8-million dead. In 1973, President Richard Nixon, officially announced the end of bombing of North Vietnam, the end of the US draft, and US troops were withdrawn from the conflict. In 1975, a massive invasion of the South from communist North Vietnam ended the conflict with communist regime winning the war and taking control of the South.

A mass exodus from South Vietnam occurred in 1975 and again in 1978; those from South Vietnam who were not willing to tolerate communism and the North Vietnamese regime. The masses of immigrants from South Vietnam were called “boat people”.
